SORN IN THE 80'S AND 90'S:

The following shots from 1980's Sorn include snaps taken by Jimmy Shaw from up on a television mast in Main Street while helping to make repairs. The first two photos are made up of a few different images, joined up. Differences would be quite obvious. Hall prefab, Filling Station, Pub is the old pub pre fire in 1998, white house beyond pub, etc.

There are also some views of the former filling station in Main Street before and during demolition. The old petrol tanks had to be dug out, so a great hole was again seen in the main street. Tom Lorimer put the large tank in during the early 1970's.

At the bottom are the photos of the day Sorn was attacked by graffiti artists. The village awoke to find the white walls of various buildings covered in anti police messages!! Whoever the cops had been harassing, it was certainly taken out on the village of Sorn!!

In these days, there was a pub in Sorn, and even a filling station. Until around 1992 there were even two pubs in Sorn. There were none of the moronic speed bumps on the roads of Sorn in those days, and traffic could pass freely and relatively quietly. Now traffic noise is more like a busy high street than a quiet village. These bumps have been imposed on just about every town and village in the whole of Ayrshire in recent times.
