MAUCHLINE ROADWORKS 2010

Major roadworks were taking place in Mauchline during the summer of 2010. This included phase 1, 2 etc. Phase 1 was the closure of the Cumnock Road, and as a result, for three weeks ALL buses ran through Sorn, over the Hilltop road, and past Mauchline Primary School, to the Cross. These ran through the village right up until the last service at night. For some this was a really handy though short lived service, excellent for going for a pint at night!!

The biggest disruption no doubt was when the Cross was completely closed off over the weekend of 28th August 2010.

The guys working on the roads refused to put their best side forward for the photos...lol.. Click on the images to enlarge.

I had hoped to see if there was anything exciting below road level, down Loudoun Street. I have heard it said that a sandstone wall runs roughly in the middle of the road, below ground level, as though it may have been the boundary of the Kirkyard or the Castle at one time. But by the time the "ayrshirehistory.com photography team" reached the site on the Saturday, the road had already been more or less finished during the night and early Saturday. So the so called team visited Poosie Nansie's instead!!
