Mauchline Holy Fair in 2011 was another very busy and successful day for the community.

One of the highlights of the day included the steam traction engine "THE SIR JOHN FOWLER" belonging to Andrew Cook and Sons, of Leven, Fife. The engine trundled up the pit brae into Mauchline about half past ten, stopping briefly at the national Burns Memorial Tower, and Poosie Nansie's for a photo session.

The weather as the traction engine arrived in Mauchline was rather wet, although within an hour the rain had dried up, and stayed off for the remainder of the day.

The ayrshirehistory.com team stood in the rain for about half an hour waiting for the appearance of the engine, and when it did, unfortunately the organ box kept very close to the engine on the way up the pit brae, and obscuring the engine working to get over the top!! Then, about 100 yards from the monument, when we were hoping to overtake the proccession, and film it clattering through the cross, it pulled away, and despite our best efforts, couldn't catch it!! The cops were even looking a bit strange as we tried to overtake the whole lot!!

The bottom picture shows Jimmy with his "auld bits", melted away because he stood too close to the fire.. LOL
